BASURAMA's Path to Sustainable Foam Recycling Success

In Mexico, approximately 17 million plates, glasses, trays, and foam containers are recycled daily, reflecting a robust recycling culture. BASURAMA, a prominent Mexican recycler specializing in industrial waste, plastics, and cartons, has partnered with local assembly plants to manage substantial amounts of foam packaging materials. Each month, they handle around 70 tons of waste, including 6-8 tons of EPS and the remainder as EPE foam. Initially, BASURAMA sold foam waste to the construction industry at reduced rates but faced storage challenges as their operations expanded.

For a more efficient solution, BASURAMA explored hot melting technologies and discovered the GREENMAX foam densifier by INTCO Recycling, renowned globally for its effectiveness in foam recycling. Discussions with GREENMAX, boasting over 14 years of experience in foam compression and recycling across diverse categories, convinced BASURAMA of the machine's suitability. Subsequently, BASURAMA invested in an foam densifier M-C200, which reduced foam volume by 98% through crushing, hot-melting, and extrusion processes. Moreover, the densified foam blocks, crucial for the recycling market, fetched more than three times the original scrap price.

Impressed by the results, BASURAMA further enhanced their capabilities by adopting GREENMAX water cooling system in July, automating foam cutting, water-cooling, and packaging processes with minimal labor requirements. This upgrade significantly boosted production efficiency, prompting BASURAMA to order an foam hot-melt water cooling system in September to meet growing demands.

As responsible players in the foam industry, BASURAMA and GREENMAX collaboratively ensure that foam waste is reintegrated into the value chain, contributing positively to environmental sustainability. Amid global environmental challenges, GREENMAX continues to innovate, providing cutting-edge foam recycling solutions to support a sustainable future.
